Neal Greig
Artist profile
My recent work has been inspired and completed outside on location.
They have a rich, organic and spontaneous quality which is achieved by painting outside on the spot. Like the trees the works are rooted in the landscape. They are a contemplation of the present moment in which they are created. A live time happening which is subject to the conditions of wind, weather and wildlife.
My pallet is fairly limited but from which I can gain an array secondary and colour influenced by my surroundings. The mark making process reads a fine line between free, broadly abstract marks to finely judged and acutely observed draughtsmanship. I weave the image together using innovative make making techniques. Bringing the painting to a conclusion through a process of layering rich passages of paint which read fluently.
