Biographical Details
Samantha Ellis-Fox was born in 1969 in Bedford, England. She grew up in Omagh in Co. Tyrone, where she lived until moving to London in 1988 to study for a Certificate in Foundation Art and Design at Harrow. In 1992 she graduated with a BA Hons in History of Art from the University of Wolverhampton which was followed by a Masters Degree in 2002 from the University of Ulster. Samantha has been working from 2004 as a full time painter. She works between her two homes in Co Tyrone and the Inishowen Peninsula, Co Donegal and it is from these noble landscapes she gleans her inspiration from both land and sea. She draws upon the familiar … a horse, a goat or a cow in a field and interprets them with her own unique language which is at a remove from mere replication. Long since one of the leading artists in the north west, Samantha Ellis-Fox has an easily recognizable style. She has exhibited regularly on both sides of the border and has shown at Royal Ulster Academy and Boyle Arts Festival. Her work is held in private and public collections including that of the Office of Public Works.
