This
‘’ is
the result of eighteen months work carried out on behalf
of the whole school community by a steering group of twelve
volunteers.
It was during the autumn term of 2001 that the group was
established with the aim of producing a development plan
that takes all aspects of the school environment into consideration.
The initial stages consisted of consulting children, staff,
parents, governors and neighbours about their use and views
of the grounds and listening to their ideas, views and opinions.
Following this information gathering process the next task
was to make sense of the vast amount of information gathered
so far and then to put it all together in the form of a
coherent plan. The Concept Plan is the culmination of our
work so far.
Unfortunately, because of the potential costs and disruption
it will not be possible to develop the whole environment
in one go, therefore the plan is designed to be implemented
one zone at a time as and when finances are available. This
means that the work might take place over many years dependant
on fund raising, but all of the thinking and planning has
already taken place.
The plan organises the environment into eight zones and
each zone has an aim or aims with ideas and requirements
that link to the aims. If all of the plans are implemented
we will develop: -
• safer school grounds with clear access routes
• a range of interesting learning opportunities and
• exciting creative play areas
The first zone to be developed will be zone 3 which focuses
on the front area of the school. Fund raising and detailed
planning are well under way for this zone and we hope to
see the first work taking place during the summer 2003 in
readiness for the new autumn term in September.
We hope that you find the Concept Plan interesting. Your
comments and further ideas are always welcome. Finally,
we are looking for funding, resources and people power to
enable us to begin to turn our plans into reality. Can you
help us? Do you know of any potential sources of money,
equipment, or anything else that might help us? If so, please
do let us know, your support is crucial if we are to be
successful in meeting our aims.
